Top most popular FAQs

What does VAWT stand for?

VAWT stands for Vertical Axis Wind Turbine

Where can a Mundo VAWT be installed?

Due to design construction and operation, the turbine revolutions per minute (RPM) and blade tip speed are very low. The low rotational speeds create minimal sound levels and no vibration. So, Mundo VAWT’s can be installed at any residential, commercial or industrial location which conforms to local zoning bylaws

How much horse power does it take to produce 1 kilowatt of power?

1.34 horse power produces one kilowatt of power

What is Return on Investment (ROI)?

Wind power is dependant upon geographical location, elevation, wind speed, and density. The absence of optimal conditions will seriously reduce production. Local power rates are also a major factor

Where can the Mundo VAWT be mounted?

On towers that are specifically engineered and designed by/for Mundo. Recommend 10’-200’ ground tower. Building mounts must be 20’ above highest point of the building and it must be architecturally designed for the load

What type of wind conditions does the Mundo VAWT operate in?

The Mundo VAWT operates in all turbulent and laminar wind flows regardless of direction, and is unaffected by snow or ice conditions

What systems can it operate?

  • AC-grid tie
  • DC-charge controller to battery or power storage
  • Integrated-AC DC system

Will Mundo VAWT’s over speed?

No because of CFD’s (computational fluid dynamics) Red River College preformed the design of the turbine which limits the revolutions to approximately 150rpm

What is a grid tie system?

It is a system where the power produced by the Mundo VAWT can be fed back into the local power grid. Electrical power can be transmitted in single or three phases

What is a battery charge system or power storage system?

It is a system that takes AC power from the turbine and inverts it to DC power to charge batteries. Our system can be set up to charge from 12 to 72 volts. Most common are 24 and 48 volts but systems and be changed to accommodate higher voltage

Can DC power be inverted back to AC power?

  • Yes, Mundo VAWT’s can be set for many different applications. For example: single phase, three phase
  • 240 volts    single phase
  • 203-277      three phase
  • 450-660     three phase

On a DC to AC inverter, what are the number of watts that can be drawn?

Mundo has inverters that go from 500 to 30 000 watts

Can a grid inverter system and a battery charge system be connected to the same Mundo VAWT?

Yes

. Is there a recommended tower height?

Yes, 80-100 feet or 24-30 meters or suitable height for good laminar wind flow

Do Mundo VAWT’s have a braking system?

Yes, they have two brake systems.

  1. a) a mechanical brake
  2. b) the system can be switched to a safety, dump load at 9000 Watts set to automatic if the grid goes down or if the batteries are fully charged

What happens if the electrical grid goes down?

The inverter instantly switches to the safety dump load so there is no danger of stray wattage feeding back into grid and causing problems for people working on grid
